Not that she wanted to steal prey of course -- but she wanted more substantial food for the clan than a small frog or fish. Occasionally they would find voles in the pine forests, but they were always the small ones that hadn't found suitable homes in Thunderclan's territory. She'd left camp before the dawn patrol, unable to sleep through the night, aggravated and thoroughly tired, yet still unable to sink into sleep. It was unusual for a Shadowclan cat to come this far to the borders of their territory for a simple hunt, but Nettleclaw knew this is where she would find the rabbit, if she found one at all. Her small figure hugged the wet earth, dewy morning grass leaving her fur tipped in droplets -- if she didn't emerge into the sun later she could catch a chill. Skinny legs and a thin body made her look rather scrawny, but she was scrappy and lean with muscle beneath that facade, like many of her clanmates. Pale eyes raked over the long grasses, mouth open to scent the air around her. Faint rabbit, suggesting one had been here in the night, and then another stronger -- though she couldn't at first see it. Another few yards of slinking through the long grasses that sloped over her back, a small wind hiding both her movements and her scent. There! Eyes shot toward the resting rabbit, situated just along the border, the start of the slope that led into Thunderclan's territory. She dared not cross there, so instead of attacking the rabbit from the side, she swung around to attack in from behind -- a thus herding it away from the Thunderclan border. Edging as close to the 'line' as she could manage, the small Shadowclan warrior slunk forward once again. Ears twisted to catch and errant sound -- but her eyes never left the rabbit that was sunbathing just two foxlengths from her. She would catch it. |
